Mercy Afrane

Mercy is dedicated to achieving positive outcomes for clients experiencing family law issues. She takes a personalized approach in understanding the client’s peculiar needs to provide customized legal solutions.

Mercy articled at a prominent law firm in Edmonton where she practiced mainly in the areas of family law, child welfare and real estate. She also gained valuable litigation experience in working with a distinguished personal injury lawyer in Alberta.

Currently, Mercy’s family law practice focuses on matters including divorce, parenting, child and spousal support, property division and drafting of family law agreements. She is pleased to use her valuable experience to continue assisting clients from all walks of life.

Mercy obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LL. B) degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana and her Master of Laws (LL.M) degree from York University in Ontario. Her diverse background encompasses working in compliance and risk management in a multinational oil and gas company as well as a legal assistant in a global telecommunications company prior to relocating to Canada.

Mercy has developed invaluable experience in drafting, negotiations, courtroom advocacy, customer service and the ability to deal with clients from multicultural backgrounds. She represents clients in the Alberta Court of King’s Bench and Court of Justice.

Mercy describes herself as a zealous advocate who prioritizes her clients’ needs whether in negotiations or contentious litigation. She endeavours to assist her clients by providing tailored legal advice with practicality and cost-effectiveness in mind. Committed to minimizing conflict amongst families through constructive negotiation and mediation, Mercy believes in the power of collaborative solutions to assist clients by resolving their issues amicably and efficiently while prioritizing their family’s wellbeing. However, when negotiation is not possible or fails to yield satisfactory results, Mercy is fully prepared to strongly advocate in court to protect her clients’ interests. Whether it is navigating complex legal issues or representing clients in court, Mercy approaches each case with utmost professionalism, diligence and attention to detail. She is dedicated to finding the best possible solution for each of her clients and is committed to protecting their rights and interests.

Outside of her legal practice, Mercy is dedicated to giving back to the community through volunteering for charitable causes. She volunteers for Africa Center, Edmonton Community Legal Centre and currently serves as a Board Director for the Edmonton Heritage Council.

In her free time, Mercy enjoys listening to music, playing board/card games, travelling and partaking in adventure sports.
